Isabel was born in the Australian mainland in Melbourne. Her mother is Swiss as is her father Australian. Her family is from Switzerland, Melbourne Jabiru (a tiny mining community located in the Northern Territory), Cairns Australia and Jabiru in Switzerland. Alongside the help of her younger sister Nina they attended schools which comprised children from all different cultures and races. Isabel currently lives within Byron Bay NSW Australia. Isabel started acting at high school. Apart from learning about drama, she was a student of Perdekamp Emotional Method at Queensland University of Technology. The actress never had auditions for roles until she was spotted by her agent in 2002. She auditioned to play a role on the show Home and Away. Producers thought she was not appropriate for the role but they were impressed enough to create a different role to her Tasha. She played her first television part for three seasons. Her performance was lauded and she was awarded a Logie Award. Isabel relocated to Los Angeles, California in 2008. The role that made her popular was her first appearance on screen in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009). Since then, Isabel has appeared in numerous US-based as well as Australian film and television productions. In addition, she has won numerous awards. Recently, Isabel was a part of the award-winning Bosh & Rockit (Ocean Boy) the film which is fast becoming an Australian classic and in the soon-to-be released thriller Lunacy. Isabel completed Sons of Summer recently and is in the process of pre-production to play Marie Curie's character in Radiant, a film by the award-winning writer/director Annika Glac.
